FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT TO CHINA BY SKAL INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT
Skål International President, Tony Boyle and Immediate Past President of Skal International Los Angeles, USA, Bernhard Clever were recently in Beijing, China and met with the Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, Mr. Lu Yong.
Mr. Lu was very enthusiastic about the future formation of Skål in Beijing and agreed to appoint a designated liaison officer from his department to assist obtaining the required government approvals to permit the formation of Skål International in China.
He also agreed to send a delegate from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development to the Skål World Congress in Turku, Finland in September. Mr. Lu expressed considerable interest in bidding for a future Skal Congress in Beijing.
President, Tony Boyle said, “This is a significant development for Skål International’s aim to establish Skal in mainland China. The potential for new Skål Clubs and membership growth in this country is enormous particularly given the exponential growth of tourism in China”.
Following the meeting with the Chairman, President Tony conducted a membership development seminar at the Kempinski Beijing Hotel where leading Executives and Managers of the travel and tourism industry attended. There was a very positive feeling among the attendees about the future of Skål International in China.
