SKÅL INTERNATIONAL HARARE - 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
Friday 24 June saw over 57 Skålleagues and friends of Skålleagues converging at 7 Honey Bear Lane in the leafy suburb of Greystone Park to celebrate Skål International Harare No 82 Club’s 60th anniversary! And what an awesome celebration it was! The team at Honey Bear Lane put on a sumptuous spread, the innovative team building games designed by Cansaf Creative Teaming produced great camaraderie and the day’s festivities were rounded off with a riveting interactive Drumming Session put on by the Drum Café where Skålleagues had the opportunity to show off their supreme musical and dancing skills!!
The theme of the anniversary celebrations was “Hats from Around the World” and Skål members pulled out all the stops in coming up with creative headpieces for the hat competition, making the judges’ decision an extremely challenging one!! Eventually though the prize for the “Best Hat” was won by Sonia Hense of Sontine Travel who sported a nifty French-inspired creation, beating off stiff competition in the process!
The travel industry came out in full support of the celebrations by donating amazing prizes for the day ranging from meal vouchers, to hotel and lodge accommodation and even a canoeing trip on the Zambezi River!
In his speech, one of the Club’s long-serving members, Tony Rodrigues, commended the industry for persevering through the difficult times the country had endured in recent years, and expressed hope that the Club would continue to grow from strength to strength as the industry got back onto its feet. He encouraged younger members to take on more active roles in the Club as the future of the organization lay in their hands. He paid tribute to the older Skålleagues, some of whom were not able to attend the event, thanking them for their contribution over the years.
Congratulations to the anniversary celebrations organising committee who did the Club proud by putting on a splendid day of food, fun and friendship!
