Latin America Congress 2011

The 38th Skål Latin America Congress was recently attended by 234 Skålleagues in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Delegates from Paraguay, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, Irael, Mexico and Australia enjoyed a wonderful Congress which included some great entertainment as well as a series of formal meetings.

Skål International President, Tony Boyle and Skål Vice President. Enrique Quesada were among the delegates and Tony said “The friendship and camaraderie that you experience at a Skål Latin America Congress is outstanding. I am so pleased I was able to be part of such a wonderful gathering of happy and enthusiastic people”.

It was resolved at the formal meetings that Skålleagues from Latin America would have a greater representation at the annual Skål World Congress. The North and South Area Committees of Skål Latin America agreed to work more closely and actively pursue new membership development campaigns. Topics such as eco tourism, the non exploitation of children in tourism and greater Government involvement in Skål were discussed.

The program included some excellent entertainment during the opening ceremony and various functions. Skål International Panama and the Panama government hosted a spectacular dinner and promoted the Skål Latin America Congress for 2012. The Congress concluded with a Gala Dinner sponsored by the Paraguay Tourism Ministry which included some incredible dancing by young ladies balancing up to 9 bottles on their heads.

President Tony Boyle stated “I very much hope more Skålleagues throughout the world will attend future Skål Latin America Congresses because it is a wonderful experience not to me missed. There is perception that you need to speak Spanish to enjoy the Congress but this is not correct. Language is not a problem and the Skålleagues at the Congress are some of the friendliest people I have ever met” he said. More information about the Congress will appear in the next edition of Skål News.
